Since 2009, Illustration, etc. (Rosemary Cunningham) has been in Glasgow creating hand drawn ink illustrations that surprise and delight. Sometimes the illustration goes free-range, painting outdoor murals, running workshops, working with the public, in schools, doing live illustration at events, doing talks or making artifacts for ‘mobile museums’. In 2017, the year kicked off by adding a sidekick to the mix - now Amy Conway is helping out and making things run more smoothly. Meet the team!
My name is Rosemary Cunningham and Illustration, etc. is what I do. I graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2007. Since then I have found my illustration niche with work that plays with the world around me, presenting it in a new way. Designs like the Glasgow Alphabet take familiar local sights and uses the ABC as a framework to make things a bit more fun and visually interesting! My real love is pictures and words – I’m keen on including education, heritage and people's stories in my work which explains my love of facts, chat and maps!
More recently, I have become a bit more free-range, running workshops, traveling to schools, hospitals and community groups to develop ideas in tandem with them. I don't believe people when they tell me "I can't draw", or "I'm no good at art". Everyone has something to contribute and can be creative, they sometimes just need a starting point so they can enjoy it.
I am a freelance theatre maker and performer from Sheffield but I've been based in Glasgow since 2004. I have an MA in Philosophy from the University of Glasgow and an MA in Classical and Contemporary Text from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I make theatre shows, perform in them and in other people's theatre shows, and sometimes even help other people to make and perform in theatre shows.
I am delighted to be joining the Illustration, etc. team as part time studio manager. I'll be taking on some of the more general running of the company so that Rosemary has more time to get creative and focus on her illustration.
When I'm not making theatre or studio managing, I enjoy reading, cycling, volunteering, ukuleleing and running - I'm currently training for the Edinburgh marathon!
